Where Are My People? is the first solo exhibition by Hong Kong artist HOLOK CHEN, held at our Cultural Partner booth at Art Basel Hong Kong 2025. The exhibition showcases their long-term alien community project, which began in 2017, aiming to reclaim the objectification faced by marginalized communities and imagine a radically different world from the one we know today.
The booth is transformed into a space station for their alien tribe, designed by award-winning production designer Man Lim Chung. Throughout the exhibition, HOLOK and their tribe members will engage in one-on-one interactions with visitors, inviting them to share stories of lived experiences and crises. These interactions aim to reframe narratives of loss and sadness while fostering bondings through shared traumatic memories.
On 29 March at 5 PM, HOLOK will participate in an artist talk moderated by Iv Ching at the Exchange Circle in Art Basel Hong Kong 2025. They will share insights from their journey of transformation as an alien, explore the development of the voidpunk movement, and discuss the other inspirations behind their alien identity.
On 30 March at 3 PM, HOLOK and their alien tribe will present a participatory performance and introduce a newly created board game about their alien community. The game encapsulates the narrative of their identity as displaced alien beings in the human world and encourages collective speculation on a future that embraces diverse communities.
